Yarn, piece or solution dyed fabric?

Yarn dyed fabric

What is yarn dyed fabric?

Yarn dyed fabric is dyed before it is knitted or woven into fabric. The raw yarn is dyed, then knitted and finally set.

Why choose yarn dyed fabric?

1, It can be used to make a fabric with a multi-coloured pattern.

When you work with yarn dye, you can make fabrics with multi-coloured patterns. You can use stripes, checks or something more intricate like a jacquard pattern. With piece dyed fabric, you can use a maximum of three different colours per piece.

2, It makes clothes feel more substantial.

Fabric made from dyed yarn has more “body” than fabric dyed in piece. It tends to be slightly thicker and heavier.

Colour matching of dyed-yarn fabric

The supplier can provide a lab dip sample. However, colour may vary slightly from the lab dip sample if the dyed yarns are knitted into the spandex blend and after the fabric has gone through the setting process.

Piece dyed fabric

What is piece dyed fabric?

Piece dyed fabric is created when the raw yarn is dyed after knitting. The raw yarn is knitted, then dyed and finally set.

Why choose piece dyed fabric?

1, It is the most widely used dyeing method.

Piece dyeing is the most common and the cheapest method of fabric dyeing.

2, Planning the production schedule is easy.

There is a standard lead time for piece-dyed fabrics, unlike yarn-dyed fabrics which usually take much longer.

Colour matching of piece-dyed fabric

A lab dip is done by dyeing a small sample of greige – a piece of knitted or woven fabric that has not been treated or dyed before. The colour of the fabric dyed in the bulk will be very similar to the colour of the lab dip.

Solution dyed fabric

What is solution dyed fabric?

Solution dyed fabric is sometimes referred to as dope dyed fabric or top dyed fabric.

Raw materials such as polyester chips are dyed before they are made into yarn. So the yarns are made with a solid colour.

Why choose a solution dyed fabric?

1, It is the only fabric that can be used for marl.

Some staple yarns can only be made from solution dyed fabric. An example is the popular marl effect.

2, It is colour fast.

Solution dyed fabric is very resistant to fading from washing and UV rays. It has much better colour fastness than yarn or piece dyed fabric.

3, It is more sustainable than other dyeing methods.

Solution dyed fabric is also known as waterless dyed fabric. This is because solution dyeing uses much less water and produces much less CO2 than other dyeing.

Some more points to consider when choosing solution dyed fabric

Solution-dyed fabrics are a hot topic at the moment. But it’s expensive, colours are limited and suppliers often require a large minimum order quantity. This means that despite its advantages, it is not yet the most popular option for fabric dyeing.

Colour matching for solution-dyed fabric

There is no lab dip option for solution dyed fabric. Customers can see a yarn sample to check the colour.

Customers can usually only choose from the available colours. Customizing colour and specification is only possible if large quantities are ordered. Suppliers may set a high minimum order quantity for customized solution dyed fabric
